CodeBe Rapid Beryllium Contamination Screening

Rapid wipe-based contamination screening designed to support operational decision-making across aerospace, defense, nuclear, electronics, precision engineering, occupational hygiene, and advanced manufacturing environments.

Why do you need this capability?

In many real-world situations, organisations are not trying to replace laboratory analysis. They are trying to manage contamination risk as effectively as possible using the tools immediately available to them. Laboratory analysis remains essential, but many operational environments require faster contamination awareness than traditional occupational hygiene workflows alone can provide.

Machining activity, maintenance work, contamination investigations, housekeeping verification, process changes, and engineering operations often require practical screening tools capable of supporting faster operational decisions under uncertain conditions.

These products are for commercial use, B2B and government.

How CodeBe works

CodeBe uses wipe-based colorimetric screening to help identify potential beryllium contamination directly within operational environments.

The wipe is applied to a suspected surface or area and then observed for color change. More soluble contamination may produce faster and more distinctive reactions, although wipes should be observed for up to 15 minutes before final interpretation. Strong acids and strong alkaline substances may also interfere with the chemistry and reduce product performance.

CodeBe is designed to support practical contamination screening where rapid contamination awareness may help guide operational decisions.

What can CodeBe detect?

CodeBe is designed to detect beryllium metal, oxide and/or hydroxide, nitrate, sulphate, copper alloy and fluoride, beryllium-containing particulate, machining residue, settled contamination, and operational contamination transfer across industrial and engineering environments.

Choosing the right wipe format

Dry wipes are generally better suited to rugged industrial environments, personnel screening, PPE checks, oxidized surfaces, and field-based contamination assessments where durability and flexibility are important.

Wet wipes are typically preferred on smoother or less porous surfaces where maximum material pickup and surface contact are desired.

CodeBe Wet Wipes

  • Open

Wear your PPE before opening the wipes and entering the testing area. Carefully open the wipe packet and extract the wipe.

  • Wipe

Thoroughly cleanse the identified surface three times and await the results. Observe the cloth for any significant color change; a change in color indicates a positive result.

  • Discard

It's important to properly dispose of the wipe to ensure environmental safety and compliance with local regulations. Always check your local waste management guidelines to determine the correct disposal method.

  • RS Recycling

“We are extremely pleased with the way these tests work - quite simply revolutionised the way we can work when we suspect there is a beryllium risk”.

    Rob Smith, Managing Director
  • Safer Environment Limited

"Valuable for those times when you need to demonstrate compliance of an area without having to wait for lab results. Giving the tools to understand the risk level immediately removes the need for worst case thinking".

    Beth Walker, Director
  • Color Tech Holdings

"CodeBe was invented at Y-12 national security Complex. Our wipes are already used at USA national labs and within national defense industry."

    Ben Hall, CEO
